As a new, interactive street "performance", VAL, short for Velociraptor can be seen walking amongst guests and being 'led' by an Animal Kingdom trainer.
While Val has already received some criticism from Dateline Disney (the site from whom i got these great photos!) I think the addition is wonderful and I can't wait to see her for myself!
The criticism comes mostly from the use of a puppet. I know, right?! That's what makes her so awesome- the performer is clearly visible at all times and for some reason, people don't like this. I think it's because Disney is known for being so magical and 'tricking' children so to speak into believing everything is real. Let's look at this practically for a second. This puppet has loud shrieking noises and a terrifying face. What child young enough to believe that this is a real live 'extinct' dinosaur wouldn't be completely terrified?! Animal Kingdom sets out to entertain, not frighten! Younger children who are not scared will most likely ignore the puppeteer and kids who are frightened can be easily persuaded that it isn't real or capable of EATING THEM.
Adults will also be able to appreciate the awesome artistry that goes into making and manipulating this amazing creature! I give this addition two thumbs up. if you want to visit Disney anytime soon, i recommend looking at the planning guide on the orlando vacation store as it's about to get a lot busier in the next few months).
